Petersdorf is a village in the west of the island of Fehmarn and a district of the city of Fehmarn in the Ostholstein district in Schleswig-Holstein ( Germany ).

history

Petersdorf was first mentioned in the Waldemar- Erdbuch from 1230 as Pethaersthorp . In 1730 Petersdorf had 125 houses, 22 barns, 25 cattle sheds and ten other buildings. A list of tradespeople from the same year listed the following professions: three shopkeepers, two barbers, four brewers, four blacksmiths, three glaziers, one Peltzer, one wheel maker, 13 shoemakers, ten tailors, four coopers, five wood turners, two carpenters, one Mason and a wig maker.

There was a train station in Petersdorf, which - converted into a residential building - has been preserved in the main street on the southern edge of the village. A few meters of track have been preserved. The associated route of the Inselbahn has been closed for passenger traffic since 1956 and for freight traffic since 1994. A cycle path was laid out on the route.

The name of the community Petersdorf was officially changed to Petersdorf on Fehmarn on January 1, 1975 . On January 1, 1978, the former communities of Dänschendorf on Fehmarn (before 1975 Dänschendorf) and Petersdorf on Fehmarn were merged to form the new community of Westfehmarn .

school

A school in Petersdorf was first mentioned in 1596. In 1757 Petersdorf owned a parochial and a district school. Children from 6 to 9 years of age were taught in the district school and afterwards in the parochial school until they were confirmed. In 1965 Petersdorf became a village community school, which was attended by the students from the villages of Bojendorf, Gollendorf, Lemkendorf, Lemkenhafen, Orth, Püttsee and Sulsdorf.

A school partnership with the Austrian secondary school Orth an der Donau has existed since 1979 .

Attractions

  • In Petersdorf the Gothic St. John's Church from the middle of the 13th century is worth seeing, which rises in the middle of a circular cemetery lined with linden trees. Your altar with its gilded carvings dates from around 1390, next to it there is a sacrament house from the 15th century. The church tower from 1567, which can be seen from afar, whose walls are reinforced by externally visible iron anchors, is the highest church tower in Fehmarn at 64 m.
  • The Südermühle , built in 1893, is also worth seeing . It is a so-called gallery or Dutch mill . The four previous buildings that were at this point were all destroyed by fires.
  • About 500 m northeast of the village on the road to Dänschendorf rises the artificially piled Galgenberg , a medieval execution site, which is surrounded by two rows of stones and trees. However, there was no gallows on the hill, but the condemned were beheaded. The last execution took place here in 1854. In front of the Galgenberg is the Ratssoll pond , which was created during the Ice Age in the Pleistocene and is one of the few inland waters on Fehmarn. The area around him was already settled in the Stone Age.

To the west lies the 297 hectare Wallnau / Fehmarn nature reserve .
