Avendorf is a village in the south of the island of Fehmarn in Schleswig-Holstein .

Avendorf is about two kilometers northeast of the bridge over the Fehmarnsund , 500 m east of Europastrasse 47 . Neighboring towns are Strukkamp (one kilometer west), Blieschendorf (one kilometer north) and Wulfen (two kilometers south-east). It is about five kilometers to the center of the city of Fehmarn. In 1937 Albertsdorf , Blieschendorf, Strukkamp and Wulfen were incorporated into Avendorf. As a result, the area of ​​the municipality grew from 284 to 1514 hectares .

The name of the municipality Avendorf was officially changed to Avendorf on Fehmarn on January 1, 1975 . On January 1, 1978, it was incorporated into the municipality of Landkirchen auf Fehmarn and in 2003 it became part of the newly founded city of Fehmarn, which encompasses the entire island, with Burg auf Fehmarn as its administrative center .

Facility

The town of Avendorf on Fehmarn has its own volunteer fire brigade called the Süderort volunteer fire brigade. This fire brigade was founded on February 18, 1905. It has around 30 volunteers. The villages of the Süderort fire brigade are: Fehmarnsund, Strukkamp, ​​the Strukkamp-Huk campsite, Albertsdorf, Gold, Blieschendorf, Wulfen, the Wulfener-Hals campsite and the Miramar campsite. The name "Süderort" stands for the six places in the south of the island.

Avendorf is the headquarters of the Avendorf / Fehmarn hunting association , a public corporation .
