Andreas Steinhuber
Andreas Steinhuber SJ (born November 11, 1825 in Uttlau , today municipality of Haarbach , Lower Bavaria , Germany , † October 15, 1907 in Rome ) was a German cardinal of the Roman Church .
Life
He received his training from 1845 to 1854 at the seminary in Passau and at the Collegium Germanicum in Rome.
Steinhuber taught propaedeutics in Innsbruck from 1859/60 and dogmatics from 1866 . In 1867 he became rector of the Collegium Germanicum . Andreas Steinhuber, a member of the Jesuit order , had already been active at the Roman Curia for a longer period than Pope Leo XIII. on January 16, 1893 in pectore for Cardinal certain public and him on 18 May 1894 as a cardinal deacon announced. His title deaconry was Sant'Agata alla Suburra .
From December 12, 1895, he was cardinal prefect of the Congregation for Indulgences and Relics . On October 1, 1896, he became Prefect of the Index Congregation , in 1902 a member of the Sanctum Officium and in 1904 a member of the Preparatory Commission for the Codification of Canon Law . In 1907 he also held the office of Cardinal Protodiac .
Andreas Steinhuber was considered a decided anti-modernist and is said to have contributed significantly to the fact that Pope Pius X. published the encyclical Pascendi Dominici gregis on September 8, 1907 .
He died in Rome on October 15, 1907 and was buried in the Campo Verano cemetery.
