Andreas Thiel (* 1957 in Düsseldorf ; † September 23, 2006 in Istanbul ) was a German film director , screenwriter , producer and journalist who worked for television for a long time. In the last years of his life, Thiel produced a number of well-known films as a partner in Corazón International .

Live and act

Andreas Thiel studied film at the Munich HFF and then initially worked a. a. as a film critic, court reporter, film editor, assistant director and co-author of Bernd Schadewald , z. B. in The Hammer Murderer . He also directed the music format Formula One and the puppet satire show Hurra Deutschland (1990). From the 90s onwards he worked increasingly as a director for German TV series such as Praxis Bülowbogen , Ein Fall für Zwei and Aus heiterem Himmel and worked on the scripts of other TV series.

The first (and only) feature film directed by Thiel himself, Black Souls (Kismet) with Fatih Akın and Steffen Wink in the leading role, was nominated for the Max Ophüls Prize in 2000.

After this collaboration, Andreas Thiel became an important advisor to the director Akın and from then on he could be seen as an actor in smaller roles in his feature films. In 2004 he and Akın founded the film production company "Corazón International" together with Klaus Maeck , which brought Thiel some recognition in the last years of his life: the films he helped produce against the wall (2004), Takva - God's fear (2006) and On the other side ( 2007) have all received multiple awards; his documentary Crossing The Bridge - The Sound of Istanbul formed the cinematic supporting program of the Cannes International Film Festival in 2005, together with works by filmmakers such as Woody Allen , George Lucas and Jean-Luc Godard .

Thiel suddenly died of a stroke just before the end of the filming of On the Other Side at the age of 48. The finished film was dedicated to him.

Thiel was also involved in the production of Chiko (2008). Thiel was still involved in the creation of Soul Kitchen (2009) insofar as he repeatedly encouraged Akın, who had great doubts about the project, to make the comedy during his lifetime.
