Andreas Burchard Friedrich von Saß ( Russian Андрей Павлович Засс Andrei Pawlowitsch Sass ; * 1753 - 12 December July / 24 December  1816 greg. In Riga ) was a Russian lieutenant general .

Life

Origin and family

Andreas came from the Baltic noble family von Saß . His parents were the Russian brigadier and heir to Tegasch Paul Hartwig von Saß (1703–1772) and Barbara Helena, née von Hirschheydt from the house of Sermus (1715–1798). His marriage to Elisabeth Freiin von Igelström in 1780 resulted in two sons, including the Russian Major General Peter von Saß (1781-1830).

Career

Saß served in the Imperial Russian Army from 1769 and was a guard officer in 1773 . In 1779 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , in 1789 to colonel of the Pereyaslav hunters on horseback and in 1793 to commander of the Kiev hunters on horseback. In 1794 he was a brigadier, took part in the suppression of the Kościuszko uprising , in particular the Battle of Praga , and was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir III in 1795 . Class excellent. After his promotion to major general in 1807, he became the commander of a corps in Wallachia in 1809 , where he won the Order of St. George III in the Russo-Turkish War in 1810 . Class deserved. He was still chief of the Perejaslav Dragoons Regiment, but received his departure in 1814 . Ultimately, he rose to lieutenant general and received the Alexander Nevsky Order , continued to be the holder of the Golden Sword for Bravery and the Stankt Anna Order, 1st class.

Until 1807, Saß was the owner of the paternal inheritance of Tegasch in the Latvian district of Livonia .
