Andrei Rareș Toader (born May 26, 1997 ) is a Romanian shot putter . He is the grandson of the former Romanian high jump champion Aurel Berbece .

Athletic career

Andrei Toader gained his first international experience in 2013 at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Utrecht , where he won the silver medal with a width of 18.53 m with the 5 kg ball and the bronze medal in the discus throw with 56.49 m. The following year he finished ninth at the Junior World Championships in Eugene with 19.18 m and then won the silver medal at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing with a throw of 21.00 m. In 2015 he also won the silver medal at the European Junior Championships in Eskilstuna with 20.78 m. In 2016 Toader started at the European Championships in Amsterdam and the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz and originally qualified for the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro . However, he was tested positive during a doping control and his results were canceled and he was also banned until 2018.

After his suspension expired, Toader took part in the Summer Universiade in Naples in 2019 and made it to the finals there, in which he could no longer make a valid attempt.

In 2020 Toader became Romanian indoor champion in the shot put.
