Andrei Vladimirovich Lebedinsky

Andrei Vladimirovich Lebedinski ( Russian Андрей Владимирович Лебединский born April 29 . Jul / 12. May  1902 greg. In St. Petersburg , † 3. January 1965 in Moscow ) was a Russian physiologist , biophysicist and university teachers .

Life

Lebedinski, son of the physicist Wladimir Konstantinowitsch Lebedinski , studied at the Military Medical Academy (WMA) in Leningrad with a degree in 1924. He was now a member of the medical service of the Red Army and worked in the WMA with Leon Abgarowitsch Orbeli . From 1936 Lebedinski taught as Orbeli's successor on the Chair of Physiology at the WMA. He carried out fundamental studies on the biophysics and physiology of vision . He investigated the adaptation of the eye in the dark (1948). In 1949 he was promoted to major general.

In 1954 Lebedinski became director of the Institute of Biophysics of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (AMN). He deepened the scientific understanding of the interactions between the afferent systems. He studied the effects of ionizing radiation and ultrasound on the organism . 1955-1958 he was at the UNO representative of the USSR for questions of radiation biology . In 1960 he was elected a real member of the AMN.

In 1963 Lebedinski became the first director of the Institute for Medical- Biological Problems (IMBP) founded on the initiative of Sergei Pawlowitsch Koroljows and Mstislaw Vsevolodowitsch Keldysch , which became the research center for aviation and space medicine and which participated in the Sputnik projects. His successor at the IMBP was Vasily Vasilievich Parin .

Lebedinski's grave is in Moscow's Novodevichy Cemetery .
