Andrew Jacobs is a diplomat serving the European Union . He has British and French citizenship.

Career

Jacobs was Head of Department at the European Cooperation Office (EuropeAid) for North Africa and the Middle East . This was followed by diplomatic posts in Vietnam and Thailand before he, based in Bangkok , became the person responsible for cooperation between the European Union and Thailand, Cambodia , Laos and Myanmar . He also worked extensively with countries in Latin America and the Balkans .

From 2014 to 2017, Jacobs was the European Union's Ambassador for the Pacific . This included accreditation for the Cook Islands , Fiji , Kiribati , the Marshall Islands , Micronesia , Nauru , Niue , Palau , Samoa , Tonga and Tuvalu . The official seat was in Suva (Fiji). The European Union's relations with the country had only just resumed after being suspended after the 2006 coup. Jacobs supported the normalization of the situation and took on the issue of climate change for the region.

Jacobs then became head of the Regional Sector Policy Analysis department at the European Commission .

On October 15, 2019, Jacobs handed over his accreditation as Ambassador of the European Union to East Timor to President Francisco Guterres .
