Andrew McQuaid (born November 20, 1984 in Ashford ) is a cycling manager and former cyclist from Ireland .

Andrew McQuaid is part of the Irish cycling clan, the McQuaids. At least six male members of his family were active cyclists. The best-known representative is his father Pat McQuaid , who was Irish road racing champion in 1974 and president of the UCI World Cycling Federation from 2005 to 2013 .

McQuaid was active as a professional for a year , but achieved no significant success. He ended his active sports career and completed a law degree at University College Dublin . After completing his studies, he worked for the auditing company Deloitte for three years . In 2008 he founded his own company Trinity Sports Management . The purpose of the company, which McQuaid initially operated on a part-time basis, was to provide legal advice to racing cyclists . In 2010 he moved to London, where he worked for the law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer . For six months, he was released to the Organizing Committee of the 2012 Olympic Games in London to work. Then he decided to devote himself entirely to his own company.

In 2011, Andrew McQuaid was one of the first group of cycling managers to be officially certified as such by the UCI, making him the first Irishman in this role. Even when his father was UCI President, he was the manager of prominent drivers such as Richie Porte , Nicolas Roche , Philip Deignan and Christophe Le Mével . This activity was strongly criticized by Gianni Bugno , President of the Cyclistes Professionnels Associés (CPA), in 2011 as a "conflict of interest". Other links within the McQuaid family are also met with skepticism: Andrew McQuaid's uncle Darach organized the UCI Road World Championships in 2015 in Richmond, USA and was responsible for the start of the Giro d'Italia 2014 in Belfast ; his brother David runs UCI races in Asia.

In 2015, Andrew McQuaid became General Manager of the newly formed Team Wiggins .
