Andrew Fabian Nicholson (born December 8, 1989 in Mississauga , Ontario , Canada ) is a Canadian basketball player .

college

Nicholson played four seasons in the NCAA for his college at St. Bonaventure University . During this time he played 123 games and achieved an average of 17.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2 blocks per game.

NBA career

Orlando Magic

In the 2012 NBA Draft , Nicholson was selected in the first round in 19th position by the Orlando Magic . The power forward played 75 of 82 games in its debut season, where it stood on the field for an average of 16.7 minutes. He achieved an average of 7.8 points per game and 3.4 rebounds. In 28 games he was in the starting five .

In the three subsequent seasons, things went less well for Nicholson. In all three years he was in the starting five only eight times and he got significantly less playing time. In all four seasons with the Magic he missed participation in the play-offs with the team .

Washington Wizards / Brooklyn Nets

In the summer of 2016, Nicholson joined the Washington Wizards . For the Wizards, Nicholson was only in 28 games on the floor, not a single time in the starting lineup. During the 2016/17 season he was transferred to the Brooklyn Nets , along with Marcus Thornton and a first-round pick . In exchange, the wizards Bojan Bogdanovic and Chris McCullough received .

The Nets did not plan with Nicholson either, deployed him ten times and transferred him to the Portland Trail Blazers for Allen Crabbe in the 2017 off-season . The Blazers threaded the swap deal with Nicholson in order to save themselves the high salary of Crabbe. There was probably never any real interest in Nicholson as a player, so the Trail Blazers dismissed Nicholson a short time later. Nicholson will continue to be paid by the Portland franchise through 2024, receiving $ 2.84 million annually.

Move to China

After five seasons in the NBA, Nicholson moved to the Guangdong Southern Tigers in the CBA . In 2018 Nicholson moved to the Fujian Sturgeons within the Chinese league .
