Andrzej Wołkowski

Andrzej Karol Wołkowski (born February 14, 1913 in Krakow ; † March 4, 1995 there ) was a Polish ice hockey player and coach .

Career

Andrzej Wołkowski began his career as an ice hockey player from 1929 to 1932 at Sokol Krakow, but then spent it with the city neighbor KS Cracovia , for whom he played from 1933 to 1939 and in 1946 and 1947. With Cracovia he won the Polish championship title in 1937, 1946 and 1947 . His last position was between 1948 and 1958 for Gwardii Krakow. In the 1950s he was coach of Podhale Nowy Targ and Piast Cieszyn parallel to his playing career . With Piast he rose to the Polish ice hockey league in 1957 . In 1958 he briefly worked with Władysław Wiro as the coach of the Polish national team.

When a Polish selection was invited to the Soviet Union in 1949 , Wołkowski suffered a severe concussion in a friendly against CSKA Moscow in a clash with Vsevolod Bobrov and had to spend several weeks in a hospital in Moscow.

International

For the Polish national ice hockey team Wołkowski took part in the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . He was also in his country's squad at the World Championships in 1933 , 1935 , 1937 , 1938 , 1939 and 1947 . Between 1933 and 1947 he completed a total of 56 international matches for Poland, in which he scored 31 goals.
