Andy Fischli's first illustrations appeared regularly from 1997 onwards in the youth newspaper Toaster, until it ended in 2002. From 2003 to 2010 he published a comic every third week in the WOZ Die Wochenzeitung . He self-published this and some previously unpublished strips in 2005 (1st and 2nd edition) and 2006 (3rd edition) in the booklet Fast Alles. The stories are in black and white and consist of nine individual images. «Fischli's style is brittle in a snotty way. The text is always very present in bold letters. No coincidence, as Fischli is adding a few very original expressions to the language. " Andy Fischli finds inspiration in daily life, at the Migros checkout, in the exit or with friends: “The best stories arise when they touch me emotionally or stir me up. Often a sentence or a short episode is enough to develop a story. " The topics are commonplace, but mostly either the narrator's perspective or the idiosyncratic interpretation of a term creates a new context. «Feelings and character traits appear remarkably often in his stories as comic characters. That could easily become embarrassing symbolistic, but Fischli characters like 'Anger' or 'Sadness' lead a life of their own, are refreshingly impertinent and provide one or the other unexpected twist. "

From 2007 to 2013, comics and numerous drawings by Andy Fischli illustrated the agenda published and designed by Marianne Studer.

In 2010 the 140-page book Der Sinn was published . The protagonists in the black and white picture stories are animals, striped, mute eggs and three-eyed hybrid beings. Fischli digs deep in his stories for real feelings and emotional disturbances and grinds them up to the daylight: Neither the feeling nor the feeling always like that. "Fischli's picture stories - sometimes philosophical, mostly funny and in most cases with a ruthless joke - expose the inner workings of modern humans." It's not just funny: "Most of the stories are very funny, often characterized by black humor or bizarre features, but at the same time often also have melancholy traits".

The book Ein einklemmtes (2011, 1st edition. And 2012, 2nd edition) is a cookbook in comic form. The recipes can be cooked, and at the same time they tell an episode from the not always easy life of the main character: “The short stories and gags, each built around a recipe, revolve around a small, somewhat clumsy cook with a goblin-like appearance and behavior, his choleric outbursts and Mishaps contrast the factual recipes in an amusing way. " And mishaps happen to many. The book is actually about failure in cooking. People who fail or struggle with their fate are generally a topic of interest to Andy Fischli.

The main character in the story One Leads to Another , published in 2015, is the one-armed hunter Orion, son of Poseidon. On 176 pages, Fischli describes Orion's daily struggle, his frustration at his unsuccessful hunting, the ridicule of his wife and his archenemy Aktaion and the infidelity of his lover. His hatred of himself and everything that surrounds him is growing. "He drowns his frustration in alcohol, which instead of relieving it leads to increasingly psychotic thoughts." Orion's anger and isolation are growing: «Nobody understands him, that becomes clear from the (silly) dream-like dialogues that lead nowhere. And from Orion's scraps of thought, like ghosts, they buzz through the forest and give shape to fears and loneliness. " The setting is a gloomy, blue-black forest. “You can see the mighty fir trees breathe in this book, you can literally smell the musty ground, and sometimes you can even hear him talking. Because here and there are a few half-decayed corpses lying around, arguing all too humanly about existence and whether one should come to terms with the fact that life is shitty, or whether one should get something positive out of it despite everything. " The vicious circle comes to a head until one thing leads to another and Orion finally meets. «Andy Fischli does what a comic artist does when he is good. He tells stories in a single drawing. This time Fischli's stories continue as a narrative, and they get stuck: atmospheric and profound, inevitable and unforgiving. "

The Positive (2015) is a collection of illustrations and short comic stories from the years 2009 to 2015. The book is in black and white and is populated by numerous people, animals and chimeras. "Andy Fischli's pictures and stories emerge with a clear line and form into unusual stories that can be sometimes humorous but often also challenging and exhausting."

Comics by Andy Fischli also appear in the street magazine Surprise , in the magazine of EB Zurich , in the comic magazines Excellent! and strapazin . He is also represented in the anthologies Peter Schafseckel - My devilish neighbors & football of horror (2003/2004, Verlag Scharfe Stiefel) as well as the supraregional comic anthologies Plus Plus (2007) and Panik Elektro 5 and 6 (2007, 2008).

Andy Fischli's illustrations can be found in various newspapers and magazines and he has already designed numerous advertisements for the comic magazine Strapazin . His clients also include: Addiction prevention in the canton of Zurich, Bildwurf Kinodias, Sika Switzerland, Casinotheater Winterthur, Kino Xenix , and the Swiss Environment Agency . He drew the subject for the poster for the Unia “stop rip-off initiative” as well as five of a total of 27 employee portraits of the Feinheit agency. On November 2, 2013 he illustrated Patrick Frey's hospital novel live on Radio SRF 2 Kultur Online. In 2014, his comic for the Blue Cross Zurich won the bronze medal of the Art Directors Club Switzerland in the illustration category .

Since 2007, Fischli's works have been shown in group and individual shows in various exhibition spaces, for example in Station 21, in the art space R57, on the Trendboulevard in Zurich and at the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée in Lausanne. In 2008 Andy Fischli was invited to participate in the Young Art in Winterthur. This is followed by solo exhibitions at Fumetto in Lucerne, in the Comix Shop Basel and in the "Alte Kaserne Winterthur". In 2017, the jazz combo Box set Fischli's comic Hear You Voices to music . The first performance took place on April 15, 2016 in the Galerie Neubad in Lucerne. In the same year Andy Fischli was a guest at the 12th Thun literature festival, Literaare, with a retrospective and a panel discussion. Fischli is showing three works on the subject of death at the exhibition Die you probably at the Friedhof Forum of the City of Zurich.
