Angelo Anelli

Angelo Anelli (born November 1, 1761 in Desenzano del Garda , † April 9, 1820 in Pavia ) was an Italian librettist and writer .

Life

Anelli studied literature and law at the University of Padua and was involved in politics. During the time of the Cisalpine Republic he was responsible for some time as a commissioner for the Franciacorta district. In 1808 Anelli was appointed professor of rhetoric at the University of Milan . One of the first librettos he set to music was the Dramma eroicomico La Griselda, based on an episode of the Decamerone by Giovanni Boccaccio . Between 1793 and 1817 he was active as a theater poet and in organizational management at La Scala in Milan . He created 40 libretti there alone, mostly for comic operas, a. a. for the composers Domenico Cimarosa , Francesco Bianchi , Franz Benedikt Dussek, Pietro Alessandro Guglielmi , Johann Simon Mayr , Niccolò Piccinni , Gioacchino Rossini and Niccolo Antonio Zingarelli.
