Anihilated is an English thrash metal band from Ipswich , which was founded in 1980 under the name Prospex , split up around 1990 and got back together in 2010.

history

The origins of the band go back to 1980. Bassist Lee Hittmann founded the band Prospex, while Kelvin played the vocals and Mark the electric guitar. Around the same time, drummer Paul "Bod" Rodwell played in the band The Annihilated, with bassist Paul Thorpe and guitarist Pete Hurley, who would later join Extreme Noise Terror , in the band. Hittmann then asked Rodwell if he wanted to join the band. Since The Annihilated was in a dormant phase at this point, he agreed. The band changed their name to The Anihilated shortly thereafter. The tape left out the second N because it would look better on paper. Shortly thereafter, Kelvin left the band and was replaced by Andy Septic. Guitarist Mark soon left the band and was replaced by Simon Cobb. Subsequently, the band left the article The before Anihilated missing because it would otherwise seem too punk to them. After a few rehearsals, the first gig followed in February 1983. This was followed by other appearances as opening act for GBH , Anti-Nowhere League , Peter and the Test Tube Babies , Disorder and The Adicts . Before that, the band had recorded the demo How Much More , which contained ten songs. The Song Book of Death was on compilation Party Pooping Punk Provocation of Xcentric Records included in the 1983rd The band also separated from singer Septic, so guitarist Cobb now also took over the vocals. Mark Beuchet joined the band as the second guitarist. After that, the band recorded the demo Shadows of Fear , which would later be known as Speedwell . The demo was recorded in the garden of Beuchet's brother-in-law, the house in Ipswich on Speedwell Road. The song Inferno was also on the compilation Will Evil Win? Included by Peaceville Records . Inferno and the song 40 Dumb Animals could be heard on the compilation 24 Original Punk Anthems by Rot Records . In 1986 the band went to Kitchen Studios in Norwich to record the EP Path to Destruction , which was released on their Brew Records label. Through the EP, Steve Beatty of Endangered Musik became aware of the band, so he signed them, about which the debut album Created in Hate was released in 1988. The release was followed by appearances along with English Dogs , Sabbat and Acid Reign . Another appearance together with Venom and Exodus in Ipswich was planned, but had to be canceled beforehand. In 1989 the band moved to Metalworks Records . She then went to the Wildlife Studios in Ipswich for ten days to record the album The Ultimate Desecration with Nigel "Chopper" Palmer . Since the album was badly advertised by Metalworks Records, Hittman and Beuchet left the band in 1990 after a final appearance together with Xentrix and Sabbat in Bury St Edmunds . Ian Crow joined the band as the new guitarist, while Lee Hart now occupied the bass. After that, work began on a new album, which should be called Carnival of Souls . However, before the band could bring out new material, they broke up. After the dissolution, the members devoted themselves to various other music projects. In 2008, the previously released albums were re-released on the Brazilian label Marquee Records : with new packaging, remastered and with live bonus songs. The Path to Destruction was released on the Japanese label In Crust We Thrash Records and was distributed via Aktive Records and Protesta Records . This re-release included the Speedwell demo as a bonus . In 2010 the band got together again and played in Norway , as well as in London and the surrounding area. The band also signed a contract with the German label Killer Metal Records and the Brazilian label Marquee Records, about which the album Scorched Earth Policy was released in spring 2010 .

style

The band played punk in their early days. Later on, the thrash metal influences became stronger and is one of the earliest English representatives of the genre. Due to its punk roots, it was also important for the crossover scene that was emerging at the time . The Speedwell demo is considered the first real Metal release . In terms of text, they were not devoted to satanic topics , as was often the case back then , but rather punk ideals and convictions such as self-determination and social justice.
