Anil Kumar Das

Anil Kumar Das (also written Amil Kumar Das ; born February 1, 1902 in Chinsura , Hugli , West Bengal ; † February 18, 1961 ) was an Indian astronomer .

Life

After completing his Masters at the University of Calcutta , he studied spectroscopy with Charles Fabry at the Sorbonne in Paris . After completing his doctorate, he was in Göttingen , where he worked with Max Born at the Institute for Theoretical Physics and then with Gustav Angenheister at the Geophysical Institute. On March 8, 1930 he went to the India Meteorological Department and stayed until 1934. In September 1934 he went to England for almost a year and was for a short time at the Solar Physics Observatory in Cambridge with FJM Stratton . Back in India he worked in Agra as a meteorological assistant. In 1937 he went to the Kodaikanal Solar Observatory as deputy director and was its director in 1946 until his retirement in 1960. Most recently he was at the Nizamiah Observatory of Osmania University in Hyderabad , where he died after a short time.
