Ann Carter (born June 16, 1936 in Syracuse , New York , † January 27, 2014 in North Bend , Washington ) was an American film actress.

Life

Ann Carter was born in Syracuse in 1936. At the age of three, she moved to Palm Beach with her mother, Nancy Carter . A year later she was discovered by a 20th Century Fox producer while on a trip to Los Angeles and got her first film role in 1941. 17 more films followed by 1952, in which she almost exclusively impersonated supporting roles - an important exception was her central role in the horror film The Curse of the Cat People . During this time, Carter played with film stars such as Humphrey Bogart , Veronica Lake , Lillian Gish and Barbara Stanwyck . With adulthood she retired from the film business and became a teacher at Occidental College in Los Angeles, where she worked until 1982.

After the death of her parents, she moved with her husband to near Seattle , where she worked in a travel agency. In 2005, Carter was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Nevertheless, she gave several interviews until her death, including 2007 for a documentary about Val Lewton . Ann Carter died on January 27, 2014 at the age of 77 in North Bend of complications from her illness. She was buried in the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent .
