Anna Henckel-Donnersmarck
Anna Henckel-Donnersmarck (born March 6, 1973 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German filmmaker . Since 2019 she is the curator and director of the Berlinale Shorts , the short film competition of the Berlinale .
Life
Anna Henckel-Donnersmarck grew up in Indonesia , Japan , England and Bavaria . She studied at Camberwell College of Art and Design in London and at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy in Ludwigsburg . She graduated from the Film Academy with a diploma (animation in the basic course, directing documentary film in the main course).
Since then she has been a programmer, presenter and juror for more than 20 years. In these roles she worked for many film festivals, including Filmwinter Stuttgart, Kasseler Dokfest, Zebra Poetry Film Festival , Pictoplasma , Internationales Trickfilm-Festival Stuttgart , Szpilman Award , Filmfest Dresden .
Henckel-Donnersmarck's focus is on short films. She designs and realizes video installations for exhibitions, stages and concerts. In addition, she teaches film theory and video practice at several universities.
On June 1, 2019, Henckel-Donnersmarck, who had been a member of the selection committee of the Berlinale Shorts from 2007 to 2019, succeeded Maike Mia Höhne as head of the Berlinale Shorts at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Anna Henckel-Donnersmarck is a distant relative of the film director Florian Henckel-Donnersmarck .
