life and work

Anna Marie Floerke attended the secondary school for girls and later the teachers' seminar in Rostock . In 1907 she became a teacher of English and French. In 1908 she was qualified to teach elementary, community and higher girls’s schools, and in the following years she worked as a private teacher in Rostock. In 1913 she obtained the humanistic school leaving certificate in Güstrow .

From 1913 to 1918 she studied German , history and classical philology in Munich and Rostock. In 1918 she received her doctorate at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Rostock on the subject of Johann Rist as a playwright .

From 1920 to 1922 she was a trainee at the Rostock University Library , interrupted by a four-month internship at the Deutsche Bücherei Leipzig . In 1921 she passed the state examination. In 1923 he was employed at the library of the Knights and Landscape in Rostock, which was, however, incorporated into the Rostock University Library a short time later due to changes in the state structure.

In 1924 she was employed as an "unskilled worker" at the Rostock University Library because of her good knowledge of the dissolved library. Her constant efforts to find a scientific position in Rostock failed because she had not passed the necessary specialist examination for the scientific library service due to a misunderstanding. From 1929 to 1948 she was an employee at the Mecklenburg State Library in Schwerin . Official certificates attest that she is "busy working overtime with studies on the old book cover". In 1930 her results were first published as a binding researcher in the archive for bookbinding on Mecklenburg book bindings in the 16th century .

From 1948 to 1960 she was a volunteer at the Mecklenburg State Main Archive in Schwerin and built up the library there. In 1949 she taught library studies in Schwerin.
