Anna Ostroumova-Lebedeva ( Russian Анна Петровна Остроумова-Лебедева ., Scientific transliteration Anna Petrovna Ostroumova-Lebedeva ; born May 5 . Jul / 17th May  1871 greg. In Saint Petersburg , † 5. May 1955 in Leningrad ) was a Russian - Soviet engraver , graphic artist and painter .

life and work

She grew up in the family of a senior official. From 1889 to 1892 she attended the Central College for Technical Drawing of Baron AL Stieglitz . From 1892 to 1900 she studied at the Petersburg Art Academy with Vasily Mathé and Ilja Repin as well as Pavel Tschistjakow . She completed her training as a recognized artist with an exhibition of 14 engravings .

From 1898 to 1899 she worked in Paris and was a student at the Académie Carmen . From 1899 she took part in the activities that ultimately led to the establishment of the Mir Iskusstwa artists' association . In 1905 she married the chemist Sergei Lebedew , who was the first to synthesize rubber on an industrial basis.

From 1918 to 1922 she taught at the Institute for Photography and Photo Technology. Later - in the period from 1934 - she taught at the St. Petersburg Art Academy . During the Second World War she survived the Leningrad blockade and created contemporary graphics about the conditions in the city during this time.

As an engraver in the first half of the 20th century, she revived this art in Russia at that time. In addition, she dealt with xylography and made use of lithography and watercolor painting . She continued to be successful as a portrait painter - the portrait of Maximilian Woloschin can be found in the Russian Museum .

Several exhibitions of her works have taken place: for example in Saint Petersburg and Pavlovsk . She also illustrated several books. Anna Petrovna Ostroumowa-Lebedeva died in Leningrad in 1955.
