Annaberg is a hamlet on the edge of the Eichsfeld and belongs to the municipality of Rodeberg in the Thuringian Unstrut-Hainich district .

location

The hamlet of Annaberg is an oval round . This district is located about one and a half kilometers west of Struth on a mountain spur at the foot of the bare and agriculturally used mountain Rain , 516.5 meters above sea level . It is surrounded by forest to the east, south and west and is connected to Struth via county road 211. From Struth there is a connection to the state road 1008 and federal road 249 at Eigenrieden . The Frieda spring is located just south of the valley .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1714. The first chapel is said to have existed there around 1600 , and in 1714 it was completely renovated from stone, whereby the bell tower built in 1672 was preserved. An old Hessian-Eichsfeld border map from 1582 shows between the Zella monastery and the village of Struth Closter Zellisch Vorwerk (difficult to read lettering) with several parts of the building, possibly an existing settlement at this location. The name Annaberg for the mountain and the place probably only came into use when Anna was worshiped at the pilgrimage site. As far as is known, Annaberg always belonged to the Zella monastery and was administered from there.

In 1810 the monastery and Annaberg were sold to a private landlord. A pilgrimage to the Annenkapelle , which had been in use for centuries, ended after a long legal dispute in the middle of the 19th century, and the chapel was finally demolished in 1869. Despite the unfavorable soil and climatic conditions, the estate was still used for agriculture. After the land reform in 1945 several new farms were built, and in 1969 the agricultural operation was integrated into the LPG Obereichsfeld-Struth. Annaberg and Zella Monastery were separated from the municipality of Effelder in Struth in 1966. Today there is a wayside shrine in honor of St. Anne in place of the former chapel .

Pilgrimage

Little is known about the origin and beginning of the pilgrimage to the Annaberg. Presumably after the Thirty Years War , a self-stepping picture was put up in a small chapel. A way of the cross led from the Zella monastery up to the mountain. After the chapel was demolished, the pilgrimage came to a standstill. Today there is another small pilgrimage in July from Struth to the newly built wayside shrine.
