Mike Morgenstern

Mike Morgenstern , now also known as Mo Morgen , (born February 26, 1939 in Brooklyn ) is an American jazz musician ( tenor and baritone saxophone , bass clarinet , vocals )

Morgenstern, who grew up on Long Island , ran the Loft Jazzmania Society in Manhattan from 1972 , where he also performed with Hilton Ruiz , Claudio Roditi and Ted Curson . In Jazzmania he organized an annual Brazilian Jazz Festival and was also involved in the synthesis of jazz and dance ( Jance ). In the mid-1980s he formed Perry Robinson the Licorice Factory , which appeared with numerous other clarinetists from Eddie Daniels and Kenny Davern to Tony Scott and Gunter Hampel to Don Byron and Mark Whitecage . He also played with Jimmy Smith at a festival . In 1993 he moved to Miami , where he opened the MoJazz Café ; there he led the house band , played with Ira Sullivan and put on an album with his band.
