Anne Armstrong
Anne Legendre Armstrong (born December 27, 1927 in New Orleans , Louisiana , † July 30, 2008 in Houston , Texas ) was an American diplomat and politician ( Republican Party ).
Career
Armstrong was the first female counselor to the President . She held this office under the Ford and Nixon governments . She is also the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom . This was given to her by Ronald Reagan .
She graduated from Vassar College in 1949 . In 1950 she married Tobin Armstrong and moved to Kenedy County , Texas. From 1966 to 1968 she was Vice President of the Republicans in Texas. From 1971 to 1973 she was co-chair of the Republican National Committee and 1972 keynote speaker at the Republican National Convention in Miami Beach .
From 1976 to 1977, she was the first female US ambassador to Great Britain, succeeding Elliot L. Richardson .

Their daughter Katharine Armstrong is a Bush Pioneer . She owns the ranch where Harry Whittington was shot by Vice President Dick Cheney on February 11 or 12, 2006 .
