After completing her doctorate, Glover became a lecturer at the University of Aberdeen and has lived in Aberdeen with her husband Ian George ever since . With the results of her research, she founded the Remedios company . She received a professorship for molecular and cell biology in Aberdeen. In 2012, Glover became the first Chief Scientific Adviser to the President of the European Commission. In this role, created by José Manuel Barroso , her job was to provide the Commission President with independent expertise on science, technology and innovation issues. In addition, her job was to serve as an ambassador for European science.

Anne Glover takes the position that genetically modified plants are not associated with higher risks than plants from conventional breeding. For this clear positioning, Glover was criticized by non-governmental organizations such as Greenpeace . Greenpeace and several other groups launched a lobby campaign in 2014 with the aim of abolishing the position of Chief Scientific Adviser , which was created in 2012 . In November 2014, the newly elected President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker , decided to abolish the post. Glover was the first and only person to hold this post.

According to press reports, Juncker's abolition of the post was related to Glover's position on genetic engineering and Juncker's plan to let EU member states decide whether to approve GM crops, regardless of the scientific evidence. Glover's dismissal or the abolition of the post of Chief Scientific Advisor has been criticized by the scientific community.

Glover also positioned himself in August 2015 on the position taken by Richard Lochhead , Minister for Environment and Rural Affairs in Scotland, on a ban on the cultivation of genetically modified crops in Scotland.

In 2005 she became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh , which she has held since 2018. She was accepted as a full member of the Academia Europaea in 2014. In the same year she became an honorary member of the Royal Society of Chemistry . In 2015 she was ennobled as Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire . In 2016 she was elected a member of the Royal Society .
