Annett Günther

Annett I. Günther (born August 18, 1963 ) is a German diplomat . She has been the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kenya since September 2018 . Its administrative district includes Somalia and the Seychelles .

Life

Annett Günther studied English and Iranian Studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1982 to 1987 . 1985/86 she spent at the State University in Dushanbe ( Tajikistan ). From 1987 to 1991 Günther was a research assistant at the Humboldt University. In 1990 she worked as an interpreter in Tehran . Günther is divorced and has two daughters.

career

In 1991 Annett Günther joined the Foreign Service of the Federal Republic of Germany. After completing her diplomatic training in Bonn - Ippendorf from 1991 to 1993 , she worked in the cultural department of the Foreign Office in 1993/94 . Her first post abroad took her to the German embassy in Wellington ( New Zealand ) from 1994 to 1997 and to the German embassy in Tashkent ( Uzbekistan ) from 1997 to 2001 . From 2001 to 2004 Günther worked on the Afghanistan Special Staff at the Foreign Office in Berlin . In 2003 she was political advisor to the commander of the ISAF troops in Kabul . From 2004 to 2006 Annett Günther was seconded to the Federal Academy for Security Policy in Berlin. In 2006/2007 she worked in the Political Department and in 2007/2008 in the Cultural Department of the Foreign Office. From 2008 to 2010 she was an exempt member of the Federal Foreign Office's staff council .

From 2010 to 2013, Annett Günther was the German ambassador to Botswana, successor to Ulf Hanel , who had previously retired . From 2015 to 2018 Annett Günther was the Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid, Crisis Prevention and Peacebuilding in Department S (Department for Crisis Prevention, Stabilization, Post-Conflict Rehabilitation and Humanitarian Aid) at the German Foreign Office. She has been ambassador to Kenya since September 2018 .
