Ulf Hanel

Ulf Hanel (born February 7, 1945 in Neutitschein ) is a German diplomat .

biography

After high school he studied from 1964 to 1969 Law and graduated after the First Legal State Examination in Marburg from 1969 to 1973 his legal traineeship and put its 1973 Second State Examination in Wiesbaden from.

In 1973 he entered the diplomatic service and, after completing his training as an attaché in 1975, he was employed at the embassy in Japan and then from 1978 to 1981 at the embassy in Ivory Coast , where he was head of the economic department. Afterwards he was head of the economic department at the embassy in Denmark until 1984 and then returned to Bonn as a member of staff at the headquarters of the Foreign Office .

He was then head of the legal and consular department at the Consulate General in New York City from 1986 to 1989 and was then deputy head of division in the Federal Foreign Office. This was followed by activities at the embassy in the United States of America from 1992 to 1997 and at the embassy in Russia from 1997 to 2000 . Between 2000 and 2003 he was Consul General in Chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . In 2003 he was appointed ambassador to Eritrea , where he succeeded Hubert Kolb .

From August 2006 to 2010 was Ulf Hanel as successor to the retiring came Hans-Dietrich von Bothmer Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Botswana . Alexander Beckmann became the new ambassador in Eritrea .
