Hans-Dietrich von Bothmer

Hans-Dietrich von Bothmer (born December 30, 1941 in Leipzig ; † February 22, 2017 in Potsdam ) was a German diplomat , ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Botswana and representative of the " South African Development Community " (SADC).

family

He was the son of Conrad von Bothmer (1913–1988) and Clara-Irene von Rosenberg-Gruszczynski (1919–2010). Bothmer married Alexandra von Kuczkowski in Munich on January 27, 1973 (born October 12, 1943 in Leipzig). In his second marriage, he married Gerhild Holz on April 10, 1984 in Buenos Aires ( Argentina ) (born March 9, 1939 in Küpper , Sprottau district , Lower Silesia ).

Life

After studying agricultural economics at the Technical University of Munich , which he obtained in 1973 with a doctorate as a Dr. sc. agr. with a dissertation on the topic of the state-free area in the agricultural enterprise. Having completed a contribution to the farmer's freedom of choice , he initially worked as an assistant at the Institute for Agricultural and Market Policy at the Technical University of Munich. He gained his first international experience as a marketing and agricultural credit expert for the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in Ecuador and Italy .

He later became an employee of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forests in Bonn (1977–1992) and, as such, was an agricultural officer at the embassies of the Federal Republic of Germany in Argentina , Uruguay and Paraguay (1979–1984) and at the embassy in Spain (1985–1984). 1988).

In 1992 he became a member of the Humanitarian Aid Task Force at the Federal Foreign Office and subsequently (1994) Head of the Economic Department at the Embassy in Mexico . From 1997 to 1999 he was permanent representative of the Ambassador to Sri Lanka and then until 2002 Deputy Head of the Department for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean in the Foreign Office.

In 2002 he became German ambassador to the Republic of Botswana and held this office until he retired in 2006. Ulf Hanel , who was previously ambassador to Eritrea, was succeeded as ambassador .

In 2007 von Bothmer founded the travel agency "Golf Uruguay SA" and arranged golf trips from Germany to Uruguay, where he owned a house himself.

His grave is on the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf .
