Minzier is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .

geography

Minzier is located at 550  m , about 19 kilometers north-northwest of the city of Annecy (as the crow flies). The village extends on a slope inclined to the west in the valley of the Flon over a wide valley basin, east of the Montagne de Vuache , in the Genevois .

The area of ​​the municipal area of ​​8.79 km² includes a section of the Genevois. The main part of the area is taken up by the Fornant valley (right side stream of the Usses ) and its source stream Flon. To the east, the community area extends over the slope of Minzier to the adjacent height and to the northeast to the broad ridge of the Montagne de Sion. At 750  m, Minzier's highest elevation is reached here.

In addition to the actual town center, Minzier also includes various hamlet settlements and farms, including:

  • Prévy ( 510  m ) on a terrace at the eastern foot of the Montagne de Vuache
  • Les Baraques ( 550  m ) on the Flon
  • Epanezet ( 590  m ) in the valley of the Flon
  • Chamoux ( 610  m ) in the valley of the Flon

Neighboring municipalities of Minzier are Jonzier-Épagny and Vers in the north, Cernex and Chavannaz in the east, Marlioz and Contamine-Sarzin in the south and Chaumont and Savigny in the west.

Attractions

The village church of Minzier received its present form in the 19th century. On the slope north of the village is the Château de Novéry, which originally dates from the 13th century, but was redesigned in the 15th and 17th centuries. Modern architecture includes a building built in 1968 based on plans by Pascal Häusermann, the so-called Maison bulle .

With 1,023 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Minzier is one of the small communities in the Haute-Savoie department. In the course of the 19th and 20th centuries the number of inhabitants decreased continuously due to strong emigration (in 1861 there were still 541 inhabitants in Minzier). Since the mid-1970s, however, a marked increase in population has been recorded.

Economy and Infrastructure

Minzier is still a predominantly agricultural village today . There are also some local small businesses. A large number of workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area as well as in the Annecy and Geneva-Annemasse area.

The village is off the main thoroughfares, but can be easily reached from the D992 departmental road from Saint-Julien-en-Genevois to Frangy . Further road connections exist with Savigny, Contamine-Sarzin, Marlioz and Chavannaz. The closest connection to the A40 motorway is around 13 km away.
