Scientrier is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Scientrier is located at around 450 m north of La Roche-sur-Foron , around 17 kilometers southeast of the city of Geneva (as the crow flies). The village extends in the middle of the broad valley of the Arve , west of the ridge of Faucigny.
The area of the 7.21 km² municipal area includes a section of the lower Arve valley. The north-eastern border runs along the Arve, which flows through a wide gravel bed here at the exit from the Savoy Alps. Large parts of the river course are designed close to nature to natural and have characteristic bank edge vegetation. From the Arve, the community area extends westward over the floodplain and the wide, gently rising valley plain. In the vicinity of Crédoz the highest elevation of Scientrier is reached with 490 m .
In addition to the actual village, Scientrier also includes several hamlet settlements, including (from east to west):

Scientrier's neighboring communities are Nangy and Contamine-sur-Arve in the north, Arenthon in the south and Pers-Jussy and Reignier-Ésery in the west.
history
The municipality of Scientrier was already settled in prehistoric times and during Roman times. The place name is first mentioned in writing in the early 15th century.
Attractions
Scientrier's village church with an onion dome was built in the 19th century. There are two castles around the village: the Château de Vivier (from the 16th century, rebuilt in the 19th century) and the Château de Bossy (from the 15th century).

With 1159 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Scientrier is one of the small communities in the Haute-Savoie department. There has been significant population growth since the mid-1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Scientrier was a predominantly agricultural village well into the 20th century . Today there are various small and medium-sized businesses. A commercial zone was created near the main road, in which metal construction, wood processing and transport companies settled. Many workers are also commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area, but above all in the Geneva-Annemasse area.
The village is off the main thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road N503, which leads from Annemasse to La Roche-sur-Foron. The motorway triangle where the A41 meets the A40 is located in the municipality . The closest connection to the A40 is around 6 km away.
