Allonzier-la-Caille is a French commune with 2,071 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .

Geographical location

Allonzier is located on a gently sloping ridge on the eastern edge of the Alps. A connection to the French A40 motorway  is in the immediate vicinity. The city of Annecy in the south can be reached via this motorway, 15 kilometers away. Geneva in the north can be reached via 50 kilometers of country roads and motorways.

Culture and sights

Two kilometers from the village, a pair of road bridges stretch side by side over the deeply cut Caille Gorge. The old suspension bridge Pont de la Caille , opened on July 11, 1839, now serves as a pedestrian bridge and an attraction for tourists who want to enjoy the lofty height 147 meters above the bed of the Les Usses stream . It is also called Pont Charles-Albert , named after Charles Albert of Savoy , King of Sardinia , who personally opened the bridge.

Road traffic is directed over the Pont Caquot span arch bridge, built between 1925 and 1928 .

St. Martin Church

The classicistic church of St. Martin in the center of the village was built between 1829 and 1841.

Allonzier's partner municipality is the northern French municipality of La Meauffe in the Manche department .

Others

The national road 201 , which runs through Allonzier-la-Caille, has no right of way in the village. The right of way for national roads in built-up areas, which also applies in France, will be lifted at the entrance to the town.

Allonzier belongs to the Communauté de communes du pays de Cruseilles, also known as Canton de Cruseilles .
