Cercier is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Cercier is located at 590 m , about 15 kilometers north-northwest of the city of Annecy (as the crow flies). The farming village stretches out in a panoramic position on a slope gently sloping to the north high above the Usses valley , southwest of the ridge of the Salève , in the Genevois .
The area of the 11.46 km² municipal area includes a section of the Genevois. In the north, the border runs along the Usses, a left tributary of the Rhone , which flows here in an open valley with several turns from east to west. From the course of the river, the municipal area extends southward over the mostly wooded valley floor and the relatively gently sloping slope of Cercier to the adjacent wide ridge, on which the highest elevation of Cercier is reached at 713 m . The eastern boundary forms the valley of the Ruisseau de Mounaz .
In addition to the actual town center, Cercier also includes various hamlet settlements and farmsteads, including:
- Les Pratz ( 480 m ) on a terrace above the Usses valley
- Cologny ( 595 m ) on the southern slope of the Usses valley
- Rassier ( 595 m ) on the southern slope of the Usses valley
- Latrossaz ( 570 m ) on the southern slope of the Usses valley
Neighboring communities of Cercier are Cernex and Copponex in the north, Cruseilles and Allonzier-la-Caille in the east, Choisy in the south and Marlioz in the west.
Attractions
The village church de l'Assomption originally dates from the 13th century. The choir and nave are preserved from this period, but were later restored several times and partially redesigned. The last major restoration dates from 1950.

With 678 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Cercier is one of the small communities in the Haute-Savoie department. In the course of the 19th and 20th centuries, the number of inhabitants decreased continuously due to strong emigration (in 1861 there were still 685 inhabitants in Cercier). Since the beginning of the 1970s, however, there has been a significant increase in population thanks to the beautiful residential area.
Economy and Infrastructure
Cercier is still today a predominantly agricultural village. There are also some local small businesses. Many workers are commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area, especially in the Annecy area.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Allonzier-la-Caille through the Vallée des Usses to Frangy . Further road connections exist with Cruseilles, Cernex and Marlioz. The closest connection to the A41 motorway is around 9 km away.
