Lucinges is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Lucinges is located at 715 m , about 13 kilometers east of the city of Geneva (as the crow flies). The village stretches out over a leveled area in a panoramic position on the southwest slope of the mountain range of Les Voirons , high above the Arve valley and the Lake Geneva basin .
The area of the 7.69 km² municipal area includes a section of the lower Arvetal. The community area extends from the foot of the slope at Cranves-Sales above the Menoge valley to the northeast over the sunny slope of Lucinges to the densely wooded ridge of the massif of Les Voirons. The highest elevation of Lucinges is reached on the Pralère at 1410 m .
Lucinges includes various hamlet settlements, including Chez Veluz ( 605 m ) below and Milly ( 742 m ) above the village. Neighboring municipalities of Lucinges are Cranves-Sales in the north, Saint-André-de-Boëge and Fillinges in the east and Bonne in the south.
history
The place name is derived from the Burgundian personal name L likewise and means as much as for the people of L wie. The Alemanni called the place Lusingen. In the area of Lucinges there was a castle belonging to the Lords of Faucigny that was destroyed in the 14th century .
Attractions
The village church dates from the 19th century. A tower has been preserved from the former castle.

With 1625 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Lucinges is one of the smaller communities in the Haute-Savoie department. Since the beginning of the 1960s, there has been a continuous strong population growth. Outside the old village center, numerous single-family houses were built on the panoramic slope of Les Voirons. Lucinges has been the residence of the novelist and literary scholar Michel Butor, who died in 2016, since 1986 .
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Lucinges was a predominantly agricultural village. Today there are various local small businesses. Numerous workers are commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area, especially in the Geneva-Annemasse area.
The place is well developed in terms of traffic. It is located above the D903 road, which connects the A40 motorway to Thonon-les-Bains . Another direct road connection is with Annemasse .
