With 236 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Chavannaz is one of the smallest communities in the Haute-Savoie department. In the course of the 19th and 20th centuries, the number of inhabitants decreased continuously due to strong emigration (in 1861 there were still 278 inhabitants in Chavannaz). Since the mid-1970s, however, a significant increase in population has been recorded.
Economy and Infrastructure
Chavannaz is still today a predominantly agricultural village. There are also some local small businesses. A large number of workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area as well as in the Annecy and Geneva-Annemasse area.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Vers to Sallenôves . Other road connections exist with Minzier, Cernex and Cercier . The closest connection to the A40 motorway is around 12 km away.
