Another WolfCop is a 2017 Canadian horror comedy directed by Lowell Dean , who also wrote the script . The film is the direct sequel to WolfCop (2014) and a kind of grindhouse horror film with hand-made splatter effects , which was deliberately designed as a trash film .

action

Sergeant Lou Garou (pun with French "loup garou" = werewolf) is still a respected police officer in the small town of Woodhaven after the events of the first part. He tries to come to terms with his second identity as a werewolf . At the full moon he locks himself up in his cellar with porn and canned beer, but WolfCop's fingers keep itching after the transformation and so dead criminals can be found in the city again and again after the full moon nights. Sergeant Tina tries to support and cover her colleague as best as possible.

A new threat is found in the eccentric businessman Swallows and his corporation Darkstar Brewing (a tribute to John Carpenter's film Dark Star ), who want to launch a new craft beer called Chicken Milk Stout. But that's just a pretext for a perfidious plan to advance his cyborg army. For some consumers, beer gives rise to doppelgangers who then take on the roles of residents. On the occasion of an ice hockey game, the drink should be distributed en masse.

Lou Garou is supported in his endeavors to save the city by Frank, the first victim of the energy drink, who has an ugly twin grows out of the belly and who is soon up to mischief, and the witch and wren, Kat. At the ice hockey game it comes to bloody Finale, at the end of which Swallows managed to escape.

background

Plans for a sequel to the low-budget film WolfCop existed before the first film was released. In particular, there is the idea of implementing the whole thing as a trilogy . From the outset, Lowell Dean was set as director and Leo Fafard was also firmly planned as the main actor. Dean got a lot more freedom in the second part, he was allowed to show a transformed werewolf penis in the second part, whereas the producers objected to the first part. The budget has also been increased to about double. The film was shot in Lumsden , Saskatchewan within 17 days . A major challenge was the shooting of the final scene in the ice rink, for which only three days of shooting were available, but which was very extensive with 20 pages in the script.

The second part contains some cameos . So the director Kevin Smith can be seen as mayor. Kevin Smith came into the role when he was looking for suitable locations for his film Moose Jaws in Saskatchewan and was asked by the producers. Matt Kennedy and his colleagues from independent film production Astron-6 were allowed to play henchmen in a car chase. The Scottish musician Gowan was allowed to perform Moonlight Desires for the soundtrack of the first part and (You're A) Strange Animal for the second part and was given a supporting role as “Organo” in the second part.

The movie poster, cover and artwork are based on the film City Cobra with Sylvester Stallone and were drawn by Tom Hudge, who was also responsible for the cover of the first film.

The film was shown in a work version in the United States on September 25, 2016 at the Fantastic Fest, the actual premiere then took place on July 29, 2017 at the Fantasia International Film Festival. The film was shown in Canadian cinemas from December 8, 2017. In Germany, the film will be released on April 26, 2019 on DVD and Blu-Ray in an FSK-16 version. On August 31, 2018, the Austrian label Indeed Films / Illusions Unltd. an unchecked dubbed version in several limited mediabooks that contain DVD and Blu-Ray of the film.

reception

The film is much more brutal, contains more elements, especially black humor, and its style is reminiscent of Troma films , which, according to the director, is not a conscious homage. Like the studio's films, however, the film is characterized by comic-like elements and hand-made splatter effects with no CGI effects at all . The low budget is also similar.

Torsten Brandt praised the film in the horror film magazine X-Rated on the one hand for the practical effects and the beautiful splatter effects, but criticized the editing and the acting performance, which did not come above a cheesy independent level.

Tobias Piwek from Virus magazine praised the film as “a must for trash connoisseurs!” And awarded nine out of ten possible points.
