Antara News ( Indonesian : Berita ANTARA ) is the official news agency of the Indonesian government.
The agency was founded by Adam Malik Soemanang, AM Sipahoetar and Pandoe Kartawagoena on December 13, 1937 to support the fight against the Dutch colonial administration and later against the Japanese occupation. It was the first news agency to report on the Declaration of Independence on August 17, 1945 .
In 1962, Antara News officially became the national news agency of Indonesia and was directly subordinate to President Sukarno by decree . After the coup from the right in early October 1965, the news agency was subordinated to the military area command of the capital Jakarta ( Kodam Jaya ) and a third of the workforce was dismissed.
On the occasion of its 70th anniversary, ANTARA's CEO Ahmad Mukhlis Yusuf signed a cooperation agreement in December 2007 with the Turkish news agency Anadolu and Azertac from Azerbaijan and the airline Merpati Nusantara Airlines .
The head office is in the Indonesian capital Jakarta . It has branch offices in all of the country's provinces and employs around 200 correspondents who analyze news from the country's regions.
The news agency has international offices in New York , the Australian capital Canberra , Kuala Lumpur , Tokyo , Brussels , Cairo and the Yemeni capital Sana'a . She is a member of several organizations such as ANEX , OANA and NANAP .
