The Antea is a French research ship . The ship is built as a catamaran .
General
The ship of the Institut de recherche pour le développement was built in 1995 under the hull number 77 at the shipyard OCEA Transport in Saint-Nazaire and put into service in early 1996. It is used by the Ifremer Research Institute in particular in the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean . It is managed by Genavir. The ship can stay at sea for around 18 days.
Technical data and equipment
It is powered by two four-cylinder diesel engines of manufacturer Volvo Penta , each with 970 kW power . The motors act on two controllable pitch propellers . The ship reaches a speed of 11 knots .
Two diesel generators each with an output of 156 kW (195 kVA apparent power ) are available for power generation.
The ship is equipped with sonar and echo sounder as well as various devices for fisheries and marine research . The ship has a swiveling stern boom that can lift 5 t. There is also one crane each in the fore and aft areas. There are various winches on deck .
The ship is equipped with a rigid inflatable boat that serves as a work boat. A 20-foot container can be carried on deck .
