Anthony Harris (* 9. October 1991 in Richmond , Virginia ) is an American American football player at the position of the safeties . He played college football for Virginia and has been with the Minnesota Vikings in the National Football League (NFL) since 2015 .
college
Harris played college football for the University of Virginia from 2011 to 2014 . In the 2013 season he was intercepted eight passes ( interceptions ) is the best in this statistic player in college football. Towards the end of the season Harris suffered a shoulder injury, despite which he played continuously in his fourth year of college. Since his shoulder injury ultimately required surgery, Harris was unable to show himself at the NFL Combine , Pro Day or other workouts. While it was originally considered one of the best safeties available in the draft, most analysts later viewed it as a second or third round pick at best.
NFL
Harris was not selected in the 2015 NFL Draft and was subsequently signed as an undrafted free agent by the Minnesota Vikings . In Minnesota, he was initially unable to assert himself in the training camp and was therefore released shortly before the start of the season. However, the Vikings subsequently accepted Harris into their Practice Squad . For the 14th game day he was promoted to the active squad and ran in the game against the Arizona Cardinals as a starter, where he was able to convince. As a result, Harris increasingly established himself with the Vikings. He was also used in the three subsequent games of the season and saw playing time in every game in the 2016 and 2017 seasons, playing six times from the start.
On matchday 6 of the 2018 season, also against the Arizona Cardinals, he intercepted a pass from Josh Rosen and thus celebrated his first interception in the NFL.
In the 2019 season , Harris became a starter alongside Harrison Smith after the departure of Andrew Sendejo . On the first day of the season he was able to intercept two passes from Matt Ryan in the game against the Atlanta Falcons and also captured a fumble . He was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance .
Harris caught a total of six interceptions in the regular season, leading the league in this statistic together with Stephon Gilmore ( New England Patriots ) and Tre'Davious White ( Buffalo Bills ). At the Vikings, since Darren Sharper (nine interceptions) in the 2005 season, no player had intercepted passes in one season. In the 26:20 win after overtime in the wild card round of the play-offs, Harris managed another interception in the second quarter, his first interception in the postseason.
