Antoine Gérard (born June 15, 1995 in Remiremont ) is a French Nordic combined athlete .

Career

Alpine and Continental Cup 2011–2015

Gérard's sporting career on an international level began in 2011 at the age of 15 when he took part in a junior competition in Baiersbronn, Germany . In the following years up to 2015 he regularly took part in the races as part of the Alpine Cup and was able to continuously develop and improve his performance. After finishing fourth at the Summer Alpine Cup in September 2014 in Winterberg , he was able to climb the podium twice in the following winter of 2014/15 at the competitions in Oberwiesenthal and Kranj , both of which were held over 10 km to Gundersen. Both times he convinced with a strong running performance following a sub-optimal jumping performance. In the 2015/16 season he regularly took part in the races of the Continental Cup and in December 2015 was also allowed to take part in a World Cup competition in Ramsau am Dachstein for the first time .

World Cup since 2016

Since the beginning of 2016, Gérard has regularly competed in the individual races and with the French team in the team competitions of the World Cup. Here he is now able to get into the points with consistently strong mileage.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , Gérard achieved seventh place in the team competition together with Laurent Muhlethaler , Maxime Laheurte and François Braud . He finished 26th and 18th in the two individual competitions.

In the winter of 2017/18, Gérard successfully started the World Cup season in Ruka with a 23rd place in the sprint and two fifth places in the Gundersen competitions . He was also in good shape with the French team at the second stop in Lillehammer , when he finished third behind Norway and Germany together with François Braud , Maxime Laheurte and Jason Lamy Chappuis . In the following competitions, however, he could no longer build on his good start to the season, so that he initially competed in the Continental Cup again at the beginning of January . There he was able to win the sprint in Klingenthal and also convince in the Gundersen competition as second behind his teammate Braud. In mid-February, Gérard took part in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang , Korea , but only reached the lower ranks in the individual competitions with 26th place on the normal hill and 32nd place on the large hill. In the team, too, the medals were out of reach, so that with a few points behind it was only enough for fifth place.

After having had a tough time in the 2018/19 World Cup and was only rarely able to place in the top 15, Gérard started at the Continental Cup competitions in Rena at the beginning of February , where on the second day he gained confidence for the a few days later the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld . In fact, he finished eighth in the individual competition on the large hill and over 10 km, which was his best result of the season. With this performance he was also nominated for the team sprint, which he finished in sixth place together with Maxime Laheurte. On the normal hill he was eleventh in the individual and sixth with the team. At the end of the season in Schonach he again reached eighth place and finally ended the World Cup season with 26th place in the overall standings.
