Anton Batsche was the son of a painter. In 1857 he began to study sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna . Batsche is considered to be the keeper of the handicraft tradition of iron cutting . At the same time, he further developed the technique, especially in etching . He exhibited at the London World Exhibition of 1862 , the Paris World Exhibition of 1867, and the Vienna World Exhibition of 1873 . In 1864 he designed four engraved panels for the entrance hall of the Rudolfstiftung Hospital .

His wife Aloisia Batsche died in 1874 at the age of 45. In the 1880s Batsche was appointed to teach at the South Kensington Museum , but declined. In his place his son Julius Batsche, whom he had trained, went to London . Gustav Ritzinger, from 1891 director of the kk experimental institute and training workshop for the steel and iron industry in Steyr , was another student of Batsche. Ritzinger was a teacher of the steel cutter Michael Blümelhuber , who in turn named Anton Batsche as his only forerunner. In order to find a livelihood, Batsche increasingly worked as a restorer of antiques, which he often added to or copied at all and which were then spread as forgeries in the art market.

He took part in Viennese social life and helped to organize artist evenings. From 1861 he was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus . He was a long-time member of the Green Island and Albrecht Dürer Association . As a board member of the Albrecht Dürer Association , he criticized the award procedure for the erection of the Vienna Schiller Monument , mainly because the decision for Johannes Schilling was made by non-artists. He was also a member of the free association of engravers in Vienna.

Batsche died at the age of 70 in Vienna- Hütteldorf .
