Anton Bodenstein , also Antonius Bodenstein (* around 1517 in Wittenberg , Electorate of Saxony ; † 1572 in Marienburg , Duchy of Prussia ) was a German Protestant preacher in Moravia , Prussia and the Duchy of Braunschweig .

Life

Anton was a son of the baker Michael Bodenstein from Wittenberg, a brother of the reformer Andreas Bodenstein from Karlstadt . In 1530 he was mentioned in Wittenberg. In the winter of 1540/41 he was matriculated at the university there. In 1543 Bodenstein went to Johannes Brenz in Schwäbisch Hall in southern Germany on the recommendation of Philipp Melanchthon .

Then Bodenstein went to Moravia ( Fulnek ?), Where he got in touch with the Bohemian Brothers . He moved with them to the Duchy of Prussia around 1548 , where he became a Protestant preacher at the cathedral in Marien Werden in 1549 .

In 1553 Bodenstein was mentioned as a pastor in Osterode , Brunswick . There he criticized the duke's church regiment and had to leave the place again (after 1554). In 1557 he became pastor in the Polish-Prussian Thorn . There it came to a dispute with a colleague, because of his proximity to the Bohemian brothers. However, they refused Bodenstein's application for admission.

He then went to Marienburg in 1558 , where he probably died in 1572.
