Anton Ildussowitsch Gafarow ( Russian Антон Ильдусович Гафаров ; born February 4, 1987 in Khanty-Mansiysk ) is a Russian cross-country skier . He mainly starts in the sprint discipline.

Career

Gafarow has been competing in the Eastern Europe Cup since 2007 . He has reached 13 podium positions so far, including six wins. In the 2008/09 season he finished second and in the 2010/11 season first place in the overall ranking of the Eastern Europe Cup. He ran his first World Cup race in December 2007 in Rybinsk , which he finished in 23rd place and thus also won his first World Cup points. In January 2009 he got his best result in a World Cup race with third place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 , he finished 42nd in the sprint. At the Russian cross-country skiing championship in 2012 in Tyumen , he won bronze in the sprint. At the beginning of the 2013/14 season at the Nordic Openings in Kuusamo , he finished second in the sprint. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he reached 12th place in the sprint. He finished the season in 41st place in the overall World Cup ranking and 12th place in the sprint ranking. At the 2015 Winter Universiade in Štrbské Pleso , he won silver in the sprint and gold together with Swetlana Nikolajewa in the mixed team sprint. In December 2016 he won the sprint in the Alpencup in Goms. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 2017 , he finished 17th in the sprint.
