Anton Keller (born April 10, 1831 in Basadingen , † September 9, 1852 in Naples ) was a Swiss painter .

life and work

Keller was the eldest son of the day laborer Martin Keller (1803–1868) and his wife Anna Maria, née Breitler (1801–1879). As a child, he drew his family members and the nature around him.

Later he copied pictures from the master book Instructions for Landscape Drawing , written by Max Josef Wagenbauer , in hand-drawing style . Wagenbauer's master books and exercise books were mainly used in schools in southern Germany. In 1848, Keller stayed at the Art Academy in Zurich and from 1850 in Eastern Switzerland , Kreuzlingen and Konstanz . In 1851 the National Councilor Rudolf Hanhart von Keller requested that he only copy his deceased friend Johann Georg Rauch from an existing lithograph showing all the National Councilors.

When Keller wanted to continue his education in Munich and he didn't have the money, a relative submitted a scholarship application to the Frauenfeld government council. The request was rejected, however, and Keller decided to register for the Neapolitan military service in order to get money. No sooner had he arrived in Naples than Keller died of typhus at the age of twenty-one .
