Anton Maria Keim (born August 16, 1928 in Hechtsheim near Mainz , † September 9, 2016 in Mainz) was a German historian , author and mayor of Mainz.

Anton Maria Keim attended the village school in Hechtsheim and the Adam-Karillon-Gymnasium in Mainz. Since his grandmother was Jewish, he went into hiding at the beginning of 1945 to avoid being drafted or deported. He was an eyewitness to the air raid on Mainz on February 27, 1945 . In 1948 he passed his Abitur and began studying German and history at the University of Mainz , where he received his doctorate in 1953 under Ludwig Petry . In 1954 he passed the state examination and began a legal clerkship in Bingen . After a year he left school and worked as a freelance writer. In the 1960s he joined the SPD .

From 1972 to December 31, 1995, Anton Maria Keim was mayor and head of culture and school of the city of Mainz. With his extensive cultural and political work he achieved national and international renown; in 1978 he succeeded in acquiring a complete Gutenberg Bible for the city's Gutenberg Museum for the first time . In addition, he is committed to German-Israeli relations and Christian-Jewish cooperation. Anton Maria Keim has published numerous publications on regional and German-Jewish history.

He was married to the actress Helga Bender and last lived with her at the Caritas Altenzentrum in Mainz-Drais .
