Anton Sergejewitsch Saruzki ( Russian Антон Сергеевич Заруцкий ; born April 27, 1986 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) is a Russian rower .

Career

Saruzki began rowing in 2000 and in his last season as a junior at the U19 World Championships in the Russian junior eighth row rowed . He took part in the U23 World Championships three times in the following years from 2005 to 2007 , but never reached the final in eighth and twos without a helmsman .

Saruzki made his debut in the open age group in 2008 at the European Championships in eighth. The team won the silver medal behind a French selection. Saruzki then established himself as a regular in the Russian national belt team, took part in numerous World Cup regattas as well as European and World Championships, but mostly without resounding success. In 2012, Alexander Kulesch , Ivan Podschiwalow and Daniil Andrijenko failed to qualify for the London Summer Olympics when they only finished fourth at the decisive regatta in Lucerne. Later that same season, the team finished fourth at the European Championships .

From 2013 the Russian rowers got stronger. Saruzki started in eighth place at the Summer Universiade in Kazan and won the gold medal there. He also won a silver medal in this competition class at the European Championships in Belgrade in 2014 and a bronze medal in the 2015 European Championships in Poznan. Saruzki was also a member of the Russian eighth, who secured the Olympic qualification with fifth place at the 2015 World Championships .

In the Olympic season, Saruzki started in the also qualified four-man without a helmsman , but at the European Championships the team only finished fourth. For the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro he was supposed to row eight again, but after the publication of the McLaren Report, 19 of the 28 registered Russian rowers were banned due to lack of doping tests outside of Russia or involvement in the state doping system in Russia. Saruzki was not among them, he then formed with Artyom Kossow , Nikita Morgatschow and Wladislaw Ryabzew , who were all also admitted, in the competition of the four without a helmsman, the only remaining Russian rowing team of the 2016 Olympic Games. The Russian boat occupied the in Rio de Janeiro tenth place.

At a height of 1.95 m, Anton Saruzki's competition weight is around 94 kg. He graduated from the Moscow State Aviation Institute .
