Anton Steding

Anton Steding (born June 24, 1621 in Hessisch Oldendorf ; † April 7, 1698 in Hanover ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Life

The son of the Schaumburg superintendent and pastor in Oldendorf Theodor Steding (1582–1653) and his wife Magaretha Rullmann had attended the education department in his home town and the school in Stade . In 1639 he moved to the Albertus University in Königsberg , where he first studied philosophy with Hartwig Wichelmann and then began studying theology. He continued his studies at the University of Rinteln .

After a short stay in Osnabrück he returned to Helmstedt as court master of young noblemen, where he continued his theological studies with Georg Calixt , Konrad Hornejus and Christoph Schrader . After acquiring the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy, he became sub-rector of the Old Town School in Hanover and soon afterwards rector of the city school in Stade. In 1649 he became vice principal at the old town school in Hanover and in 1652 pastor of the Neustädter church in Hanover . In 1678 he was promoted to superintendent of the Neustadt Hannover and became a senior in the convent of superintendents between Deister and Leine.

In 1648 he married Ilse, daughter of the professor of theology at the University of Rinteln Josua Stegmann . The marriage resulted in three sons and three daughters, with one son and one daughter dying young in a week. His son Anton Friedrich Steding also became a theologian. His daughter Ilse Louse Steding had married on April 28, 1674 in Hannover Neustadt with the princely Brunswick-Lüneburg senior superintendent, consortium and church councilor Christian Specht (born August 30, 1647, † August 8, 1706 in Wolfenbüttel).
