Christian Specht (born August 30 or September 2, 1647 in Göttingen ; † August 8, 1706 in Wolfenbüttel ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

The son of the Göttingen general superintendent Christoph Specht and his wife Dorothea (* March 18, 1628 in Uslar, † 1680 ibid), the daughter of the superintendent in Holzminden Johann Gatzemeier (* 1570 in Moringen-Solling; † August 1634 in Holzminden) was born on 2 Baptized September 1647 in the St. John's Church in Göttingen. He attended high school in his hometown and studied at the University of Jena , where he received a master's degree in philosophical sciences in 1670 . Soon afterwards he went to Wunstorf as a deacon .

Specht married Ilse Lucia in 1674 (* 1649 in Hanover; † February 5, 1709 in Braunschweig), the daughter of Anton Steding . In 1676 he became pastor at the Kreuzkirche in Hanover .

His daughter, who later became the poet Anna Margareta Pfeffer, was born in the then royal seat of the city on May 5, 1679 .

For the mayor of Hanover, David Amsing , who died in 1683 and was buried in the Marktkirche , Specht wrote a rhyme for the deceased - in addition to Pastor Georg Hilmar Ising's funeral sermon , which was later printed by the princely Braunschweig-Lüneburg court printer, Georg Friedrich Grimm .

In 1689 he came to Eutin as the successor to Johann Wilhelm Petersen . As consistorial councilor, court preacher and superintendent , he was the leading clergyman in the Lübeck bishopric .

In 1692 he went to Wolfenbüttel as general superintendent, consistorial councilor and senior pastor at the Marienkirche . In 1693 he became abbot of the Riddagshausen monastery , whose seminary he helped set up, and advanced to the position of senior court preacher in the Brunswick-Lüneburg duchy. The effects of Georg Calixt's theology fall in Specht's time . In the Braunschweig region, for example, the Reformed and Roman Catholic services were officially permitted. The conversion of the potentates of the Duchy of Braunschweig-Lüneburg to the Roman Catholic Church was supported by Specht.
