Anton Wieser , called Toni Wieser , (born January 23, 1921 in Bischofshofen , † January 30, 1993 in Schwarzach im Pongau ) was an Austrian ski jumper . He took part in the 1948 Winter Olympics and achieved three podium places in international jumping.
Career
Wieser began ski jumping in the mid-1930s. Due to the Second World War , his still young career, in which he had already achieved some success in youth jumping, was interrupted. After the war, he continued his sporting career immediately and in 1946 became Salzburg State Champion. In the next few years he was one of the best in Austria and achieved several podium places in international FIS jumping competitions.
In winter 1946/47 Wieser jumped on the large hill in Bischofshofen to third place in winter 1947/48 he scored two second places on the large hill in Bischofshofen and on the normal hill in Zell am See and three other top 5 results. With that he also joined the team for the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz , where he finished 28th as the third-best Austrian on the normal hill.
In the years that followed, Wieser rarely made it into the top ten. In the winter of 1949/50 he came in seventh on the large hill in Ponte di Legno and in the winter of 1952/53 he achieved his last international top 10 results with seventh on the normal hill in Celje and eighth on the normal hill in Marburg . At national level he was able to keep up with the top ranks for longer. In his jumps on the Four Hills Tournament , a 20th place in Innsbruck in 1953 was the best result.
After his active career, Wieser became a ski jumping trainer and from 1965 to 1972 he took on the sporting training of the youth team of the Austrian Ski Association . In 1972 he was awarded the ÖSV Badge of Honor for his services to Austrian ski jumping.
