Johannes Ittig

Johannes Ittig (also: Johann Ittigius ; * October 8, 1607 in Schleusingen ; † July 21, 1676 in Leipzig ) was a German medic, logician and physicist.

Life

The son of the same-named administrator of the Commandery of the Order of St. John in Schleusingen had attended school in his hometown and began studying at the University of Jena in 1626 . He continued this in 1629 at the University of Leipzig , where he acquired the baccalaureate in 1630 and the academic degree of Master of Philosophy in 1631 . After completing his habilitation at the philosophical faculty, he became an assessor at the same faculty and went to Dresden as an informator for the sons of the then electoral Saxon personal physician Sigismund Rupert Sultzberger (1623–1675) . From this he was inspired to study medicine. Ittig therefore returned to Leipzig University in 1635.

In Leipzig he received a baccalaureate at the medical faculty in 1637, advanced to licentiate and in 1644 received his doctorate in medicine. After Ittig had become a collegiate at the small prince's college , he was given the professorship for logic (Logicae organi Aristotelici). In 1638 he became professor of physics and librarian at the university library. As such, he also took part in the organizational tasks of the Leipzig University. He was decemvir of the academy, dean and senior of the philosophical faculty and in the summer semesters 1642, 1648, 1652, 1660, 1662, 1666 and 1670 seven times rector of the alma mater .

Ittig was buried in the Paulinerkirche in Leipzig , where an epitaph was erected for him.

From his marriage in 1641 to Sabina Elisabeth, the daughter of the theologian Thomas Weinrich (1587–1629), the sons Gottfried Nikolaus Ittig , Thomas Ittig (1643–1710), Johann Philipp Ittig (born May 1, 1642 in Leipzig; † 27 January 1652 ibid) and the daughter Anna Magaretha Ittig (married to Johann Lange (1647–1725)) known.
