Thomas Weinrich, (woodcut)

Thomas Weinrich (born April 18, 1588 in Hirschberg , Principality of Schweidnitz , † May 4, 1629 in Leipzig ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

Thomas was born the son of the pastor in Hirschberg Thomas Weinrich and his wife Emerentia. At the age of five he attended the town school in his birthplace. In 1604 he became a student of the Maria Magdalenen High School in Breslau . In July 1607 he moved to the University of Leipzig , where he was accepted into the household of his uncle Georg Weinrich . The latter employed him as a private tutor to his son Gottfried Weinrich and gave him a position in the choir of the Nikolaikirche and a scholarship from the theological faculty. At the philosophical faculty Weinrich acquired the Baccalaureat in March 1608 and on January 31, 1611 the academic degree of Magister of Philosophy.

He then continued his theological studies. In addition, he became a teacher at the Nikolaischule in Leipzig in June 1611 . In May 1612 he took over a pastorate in Meuselwitz near Altenburg. In 1614 he moved to the Nikolaikirche in Leipzig as a subdeacon, where he rose to a deacon (Vespers preacher) in 1619 and became archdeacon there in 1621. On February 14, 1617 he was appointed as a collegiate of the women's college, where he was also prepositus in 1620. In order to meet the requirements of a theologian, he graduated from the Leipzig Alma Mater on June 17, 1613 with a baccalaureate in theology, acquired a licentiate on February 5, 1624 and a doctorate in theology on March 9, 1629. After Vincentius Schmuck's death , he was appointed professor of theology at the Leipzig University in 1628. However, he did not have a lasting effect in the latter activity, as he fell ill and died. He died in 1629 and a tombstone was erected for him in Leipzig

family

Weinrich married Anna Suarinus on January 19, 1613 in Altenburg, the daughter of the general superintendent in Altenburg Abraham Suarinus . The marriage resulted in four sons and three daughters, of whom three sons and three daughters survived the father. From the children we know:

  1. To. Sabina Elisabeth Weinrich ⚭ 1641 with the doctor and physicist Johannes Ittig
  2. To. Anna Cecilie Weinrich (* January 12, ~ January 14, 1614 in Altenburg; † May 24 □ May 26, 1638 in Meuselwitz) ⚭ March 5, 1633 with the pastor Michael Wolfrum
  3. So. Polycarp Weinrich (* 1620 in Leipzig; † August 1, 1624 ibid.)
