Abraham Suarinus

Abraham Suarinus (also: Svarinus , born November 15, 1563 in Schkeuditz , † November 11, 1615 in Altenburg ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

Suarinus was born in Schkeuditz as the son of the pastor Johann Suarinus (* in Nebra; † 1585 in Schkeuditz) and his wife Martha geb. Crause (* in Altenburg) born. In 1569 he started school at the school where he was born, where he learned the basic concepts. In 1576 he moved to the cathedral high school in Merseburg under the direction of the local rector M. Daniel Hertel. On January 17, 1581 he was sent to the University of Leipzig . In 1582 he acquired the baccalaureate of philosophy there and in 1584 was master of the same science. After an educational trip through German coastal cities such as Lüneburg , Hamburg , Lübeck and Wismar , he came to Rostock University in September 1584 . Here he continued his theological training with David Chyträus , Simon Pauli and Lucas Bacmeister . On the side, he also attended lectures at the law faculty and dealt with politics. During that time he made a living by giving private lectures on ethics.

In 1585, at the request of his father, he returned to Leipzig, where he tried to do his habilitation at the philosophical faculty. However, since his father died in the same year, he tried to take over his pastor. To this end, he completed a trial sermon at Merseburg Cathedral on January 16, 1586 and was appointed to the office shortly afterwards. After he was ordained on March 3 of the same year in Leipzig, he was introduced to his Schkeuditz pastoral office on June 12, 1586. In 1600 he moved to Delitzsch as pastor and superintendent . On the advice of Johannes Förster he went to the University of Wittenberg on May 1, 1610 . Here he obtained his licentiate in theology on July 26, 1610 and, together with Aegidius Strauch , was awarded a doctorate in theology on November 6 of the same year .

This doctorate earned him a call to Altenburg, where he held a trial sermon in Altenburg Castle on September 28, 1610 and was then appointed General Superintendent of the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg . Therefore, he moved with his wife and children to Altenburg, where he gave his first sermon on December 25, 1610 and was appointed assessor at the newly founded Altenburg consistory in 1612 . After a short period of work he died there and was buried on November 15, 1615 in the Altenburg Brothers Church.
