Anton Joseph von Bucher

Leonhard Anton Joseph von Bucher (born January 11, 1746 in Munich ; † January 7, 1817 there ) was a German theologian , writer, satirist and school reformer .

Life

Von Bucher was the son of the electoral coat of arms and diploma painter Joseph von Bucher and his wife Maria, b. Barb, in Munich. During his school days at the Munich Jesuit High School (today Wilhelmsgymnasium Munich ) from 1757 to 1763, he met Johann Baptist Strobl , Lorenz von Westenrieder and Andreas Zaupser . He then studied theology in Ingolstadt and became a chaplain here in 1768 . Since 1771 rector of the German schools, since 1773 also of the grammar school and lyceum in Munich, he worked as an opponent of the Jesuits committed to the reform of the school system. After conflicts with the head of the entire Bavarian school system, Heinrich Braun , he accepted the parish of Engelbrechtsmünster in 1778 . From 1783 he was a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . In 1784 he was called back to Munich as clergyman and school director and retired in 1813. His publications were published under the title "The Jesuits in Bavaria before and after their abolition" by I. v. Klessing (Münch. 1819–20, 5 vols.) Published. Von Bucher's grave is located in the Old Southern Cemetery in Munich (wall on the left, place 275, opposite center, grave field 11).
